History
Woodburn Fertilizer was originally owned and managed by the Burlingham Family which ran the business for three generations. The Burlingham family had been in the seed business since the 18 th century with great, great, great grandfather John Burlingham establishing the first family seed mill at Sapeston, England in 1773. John's son George established G. Burlingham Seeds at Bury St. Edmunds in 1815 and his son Ernest settled in Forest Grove, Oregon where he established the firm of E.F. Burlingham & Sons. His second son, Frank, established a feed and seed operation at woodland, Washington in 1920 and operated the firm until purchasing Woodburn Feed and Supply in Woodburn, Oregon in 1941.
In 1954 Frank Burlingham brought his only son Don on board, after he graduated from Oregon State University with a degree in Business. Frank retired after 22 years and sold the business to Don in 1963. In the mid 1960's, Don changed the name of the firm to Woodburn Fertilizer and Grain to more clearly define the activities of the firm. In 1978, the same year Don's only son Scott became active in the business, a devastating fire completely destroyed the feed mill built in 1892. Ironically, Scott, a member of the Woodburn Volunteer Fire Department at the time was called to the scene of the fire. It was his first call as a volunteer fireman . Don decided against rebuilding the feed mill as the market reflected a downturn, and focused on becoming more aggressive in the seed cleaning, fertilizer and chemical business. With that decision came the construction of a million dollar seed cleaning facility that remains in operation today with the capability of cleaning and storing over 10 million pounds of grass seed.
Plagued by fire once again in 1997, the main fertilizer blending facility burned to the ground. Without missing a beat and to the amazement of all, not one day of production was lost. With a little ingenuity, a dedicated staff and a few extra hours, the small packaging facility was able to keep the store open until the fertilizer plant was reconstructed. In late 1998, the doors opened to a bigger and better state-of-the-art fertilizer blending facility with a multitude of functions and capabilities.
In February of 2005 Woodburn Fertilizer was purchased by Wilbur-Ellis Company, a leading international marketer and distributor of agricultural and industrial products, with sales exceeding $1.474 billion in 2004. The Company remains privately held, with ownership concentrated primarily within the founding family.

I recently bought the best epsresso machine I could afford and have started investigating different flavors of coffee. This has triggered an interest in the coffee plant and led me to find out how coffee is actually grown.
In most areas in the world, coffee plants are usually planted in high volumes. You can cultivate this plant in more than 70 countries, mostly those that have a warm climate such as Brazil and Indonesia, there two are the world’s largest coffee producers but also in several other areas such as Central America, Africa and India. These plants are usually grown in several that are located between the Tropic of Capricorn and Tropic of Cancer.
Growing coffee beans is a process that is very complex and that is mostly the same in all countries. There are actually 2 primary species of these plants, known as the Robusta and the Arabica. These are small and evergreen trees and their cultivation takes place right on the plantation site. Coffee is better gron on fields that are provided with deep soils and are properly aerated and also well drained, and they also require a large amount of oxygen to be provided to their roots.
Coffee plants require around 1500-2000 mm of rainfall each year in order to offer the best production. Also, in order to get a better quality of coffee, it is mostly recommended that you cultivate it at a higher altitude that has an abundance of clouds and mist. By providing them with lower oxygen content due to the high altitude, you will get a better flavor for your coffee beans because it will take them a longer period to reach maturity.
Another thing that you should keep in mind is that coffee trees require a constant and special attention. You will have to water them regularly, fertilize and provide them the proper amount of shaded sunlight. You should also protect them from weeds and pests in order to ensure that they will produce the most and the best coffee beans. You can harvest your coffee after approximately 1 year since it takes it around 2 months to blossom and then 9 months until it reaches the point of harvesting, this depends on the environment and other factors.

I wanted some new bar stools for my outdoor bar, but picking the right ones was such a hassle. The myriad options to select from nearly gave me whiplash! There are plenty of styles to choose from, from natural bamboo style to sleek and sophisticated black iron ones with seat cushions.
The people I have asked all say I should match my chairs to my small garden I started in the corner of my backyard, in order tie in the theme of nature. As much as that makes sense and would probably look good, I dont like the idea of making my outdoor bar looking like something from Hawaii rather than something from a Midwest City.
Im thinking that I will still get some black chairs but get seat cushions that evoke a natural theme. That way I can find chairs in order to be able to appeal to my more modern taste but also match them to the garden.

After a whole year of trading and purchasing fertilizers I’ve finally decided to go off on a holiday! Ok so its actually a business trip, but me and my partners will be travelling to Asia for a fertilizer convention as well as spend some time on the beach to relax our bones a bit. Going on a trip has always made me feel uneasy as I’m so used to travelling domestically but a good friend told me that speaking to a trip advisor is usually a good idea when preparing for trips. They can be found online as well in a traditional brick and mortar setting. They help advise you of the trip you are taking by connecting you with groups and individuals who have experience in travelling to your destination. One person they connected me to even offered to rent his luxury apartment to me at a price that’s half a 3 star hotel! He even offered to give me a tour and take me to local fertilizer companies that offer products at vastly reduced prices. All in all, this should prove to be quite an interesting trip.

The company offers an extensive benefits package that it calls the employees “Special Blend”. Employees are actually referred to as partners and according to Forbes magazine the company actually spends more on providing health insurance coverage for its employees than it does on purchasing coffee beans!
Starbucks employees also have access to all kinds of other resources including help with childcare, emergency financial aid and they even get to take home a free pound of Starbucks coffee every week!

As online dating in the entire world is becoming more and more popular and accepted it has on the other hand become more difficult to think of an original and good date as most ideas have become quite standard. We at Wilbur-Ellis are experts in gardening, and from personal experience we know that your own garden is the best place for a first date. As I am from Canada, I went online and searched the term rencontre gratuit, which is free dating for non- French speaking Canadians; I joined a dating site, talked to some girls and planned my first date in my garden. And I can tell you that all the girls went from cautious to head over heels when they saw my garden. Of course, if your garden is in excellent condition and looks like heaven on earth, this will make your dream girl become all ‘gaga’ about you and the dream or picture you portray with your garden. Love is actually like a garden; if you give water, sunlight and good soil, your flower will become beautiful. But if you don’t show it as much love, the flower will not flourish as it potentially can be.
All I can say is to take a good peek at the gardening products we offer and improve your garden, even if it is just for the sake of finding love.

Nowadays with the plummeting US and also global housing markets, investing in your house and garden has been becoming more important how to make your house more attractive to the others houses that are for sale. A house with a unmaintained garden can look less attractive to potential buyers, even though new buyers can become more creative in filling in their own fantasy ‘perfect’ garden. Buyers of existing homes want to be seduced by the dream you are offering to them. Even taking down a personal loan can be an advantageous investment into the value of your home. This does not only is the case for the US housing market but also for the Belgian housing market, where a personal loan is called persoonlijke lening, which you can use to renovate your home and garden. We believe that taking a loan at a decent interest rate can improve the value of your home as it gives your home this extra spirit or let’s call it life, which can increase the emotional value of home buyers.

The products we offer at Wilbur-Ellis Company can help you realize your dreams and the dreams of your future home buyers and the emotion your garden elicits with them.

Did you know that you can pick up a ringworm infection while you’re doing the gardening? Ringworm is a common skin fungus infection that occurs when you come into contact with a particular type of keratin loving fungus known as a dermatophyte. (It’s not caused by a worm!)
Ringworm is very common indeed and can affect different parts of the body. If it affects the skin between the toes it’s known as ringworm of the foot or Athletes foot. Nail fungus infections are also a form of ringworm, known in the medical profession as Onychomycosis. Most can be treated with an antifungal cream although nail fungus treatments can take a long time as the fungus is located in a hard-to-reach position underneath the nail.
Yes, you’ve guessed it, the fungus is found in soil. In fact it’s pretty ubiquitous wherever conditions are damp, dark and protected.
I’m pretty sure I developed my ringworm infection from digging around in my damp vegetable beds for several months this summer. I spent ages mixing in some new fertilizer that I bought. I’m a bit lax at washing my hands after grubbing around in the soil which probably served to make matters worse. Also my dermatologist told me that any injury or trauma to my hands an nails will lower the local immunity and provide an easy entry point for fungal organisms to infect my skin and nails.
My vegetables are growing great guns thanks to the friable soil (all that mixing) and the nutrient from the fertilizer. Great news. But it’s probably time for a pair of good quality gardening gloves.

The Burlingham family originated in Norfolk in England where the name is associated with the village of Burlingham. The coat of arms has a gold background and has a red vertical band running down the centre with three silver balls superimposed on the band.
The first ancestor found with the name was Hugh de Byrlingham in 1273 – spelling didn’t matter much in those days and someone could be born with one spelling, be married with another, and his death records could have a third variation of the spelling. It is said that William Shakespeare spelt his name in five different ways.
The place name Burlingham is constructed of two elements: ‘Burling’ and ‘ame’. Burling is believed to be derived from a diminutive form of an Old English given name Burgheard, while ‘ame’ is derived from ‘ham’ meaning a hamlet. So the full name means ‘Burling’s homestead’.
The origin of the coat of arms is not known.

Listening to NPR over lunch today, I heard a forestry science professor from Yale University talk about the severity of logging issues in Indonesia. Lisa Curran discussed the massive deforestation taking place in the rainforest to produce Palm oil, a highly productive oil seed, and the key ingredient in many processed desserts. Her interviewer (Dick Gordon, The Story) expressed his guilt over having purchased items that have contributed to this corruption of the environment; seemingly innocent products such as instant jello and peanut M&M’s. It made me think of my reaction to a PETA flyer that I had seen, decrying the effects of the meat-eating lifestyle on the environment. Listening to The Story I thought to myself, “if Dick Gordon should feel guilty about eating M&Ms, maybe we should all know–and have the opportunity to feel guilty about–what it means to have high cholesterol foods in our diets.” Here are some of the facts, you make the call:
- 2.9 million acres of rainforest were destroyed in the 2004-2005 crop season in order to grow feed for chickens and other animals in factory farms. (Greenpeace, “Eating up the Amazon”)
- 1/3 of all raw materials and fossil fuel used in the US goes to raising animals for food. (PETA, “Go Veg”)
- Nearly 1/2 of the water used in the US goes to raising animals for food. (National Audobon Society)
- 20 tons of manure are produced for every household in the US each year. (Union of Concerned Scientists)
If this is enough to have you convinced, check out PETA’s free vegetarian starter kit! If not, think about these facts when you go to order your next buritto at cosmic–our diets have an effect on the environment!

There’s nothing quite like just popping out into the garden to pick some vegetables to eat them straight away. You’ll know yourself just exactly what chemical have or haven’t been used. Ideally, you’ll be able to grow organically meaning that your produce will be the healthiest it can be.
Greens, in particular Brassica, e.g. broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage, kale, etc. are well known for the rich supply of nutrients that they offer. Being told to eat your greens is something that many of us have heard since we were young. Some of us love them, while others, not so much.
A popular option now a days is to make a so called green juice. Take a look at this Omega VRT350HD juicer review to see why so many people are picking this machine to make their green drinks. I enjoy eating my vegetables but for many people, drinking the goodness is easier.

I’ve just come back from staying in a small town on the South Western Coast of Turkey. It was a small town called Kas which although fairly busy during the Summer seems almost deserted during the Winter months. Although I had pretty much all the modern cons available to me, one thing I did notice is how much waste my lifestyle there generated compared to living in the UK. I heated my rooms using wood and paper logs generated from my handy little paper log maker. Every time I went to the market for food, I was amazed at the lack of packaging I was left with, no piles of plastic and endless cardboard and trays.
As far as food goes, I wasted a lot less – you have to think about your meals a little more as there was no supermarket nearby. But this meant I didn’t get swamped with food past it’s sell by date and piles of TV dinners that I never really wanted. Meals did take a little longer to prepare however I think that helped me appreciate it more. You take your time eating something that’s taken a bit of time to prepare compared with something you just take out of the microwave after 4 minutes.
I am glad to be back though although the internet was certainly responsible for me not feeling that homesick. When I figured out the technology required to watch BBC Iplayer abroad, watching the news every night from the BBC solved that. Had I been restricted to Star TV and the other Turkish TV stations I’m sure I would have felt rather differently though.
It’s definitely made me think about my lifestyle here though, although you see lots of fresh food in the supermarkets here – I don’t seem to eat as much of it. The stupid offers trying to force me to buy more than I need was instantly annoying although I’ve started to train myself to ignore these completely. But in the end it was the climate I missed here – Turkey has a lot of sun but perhaps just a little too much for me. The Summer heat is pretty oppressive even when you’ve become climatized, the drizzle of a November day in the UK was actually rather pleasant.

I recently treated myself to a new Gaggia Classic coffee machine. Now I’ve always enjoyed a cup of coffee but now that I have my new toy my caffeine intake is higher than ever. Anyway as I finished preparing my umpteenth cup of coffee the other day I got to thinking that, in these days of re-use and recycle, it was a shame there wasn’t some use I could put all these used coffee grinds to.
Turns out there is. One use for coffee grinds is to sprinkle them around the plants in your garden before you water them. This apparently creates a slow-release of nitrogen into the soil which is good because Nitrogen is an important element of plant development. Let the grinds dry first and then ease them into the soil around your plants. If you have a compost heap you can just dump them in. Coffee grinds are acidic which makes them a good choice for mulching rhododendrons, azalea and plants that prefer acid soil.

As energy costs skyrocket, many families are searching for less expensive methods to heat their homes this winter. One ‘back to basics’ idea that many have taken up is burning firewood for a nice warm, cozy fire in the fireplace. This not only provides warmth, but it actually brings many families closer together as the entire group spends more time in one particular room of the house, which naturally leads to more conversation and quality family time.
If you’re going to burn a significant amount of firewood this winter then you need to start contemplating an efficient and safe way to store the wood. Most people just pile up the firewood in their back yard, but the more professional way to store it is by either constructing or purchasing a firewood rack.
A firewood storage rack’s primary purpose is to organize the firewood, keep it off the ground, and protect it from the elements. As most people are aware, water and moisture are the main enemies of firewood. A concern is therefore usually keeping the wood covered when there’s precipitation falling.
This is accurate; however the more insidious method of moisture transfer is actually from the ground. So a standard pile of firewood in someone’s yard is sitting on the ground is constantly transferring moisture to the bottom layer of firewood. Since this wood is perpetually wet, it will invariably rot and become worthless for burning. Simply taking it off the ground and putting the wood on a structure like a firewood rack will eliminate this problem.
Many racks such as the Woodhaven firewood rack will come standard with an adjustable half cover to keep the rain off the top of the wood while still allowing the wood to get the ventilation it needs.
Finally, safety is another reason to purchase a log rack. Instead of having a loose pile of heavy firewood in your yard that could tumble at any given moment, storing it in a rack will secure the wood and eliminate the potential safety (and lawsuit) hazard.

You have probably heard the word curb appeal a hundred times before. However, many people truly don’t understand the importance of it in the real estate business. Whether you are selling your home in the St George real estate or across the World in Australia you will want curb appeal. Therefore in this article we will cover a few basics behind curb appeal.
The first main part of curb appeal is the yard in front and behind the house. To begin improving your curb appeal you will want to pick up a fertilizer for your garden, bushes, and lawn. You need to ensure each of these is properly fertilized and watered. You want your yard to look as healthy and lively as possible.
Next for curb appeal you will want to ensure that your house looks the best possible. If your house is starting to look old and warn you should consider repainting it. If you are unsure about a color you should always go with a neutral color that wont age. If you need additional help selecting color check with your local paint shops.
Lastly when improving your curb appeal make sure all other smaller items on the house look good. For example a new front door can make your house really pop. You may even consider painting the door brighter lighter color to make it stand out. As part of fixing up the smaller things always makes sure your yard and house are picked up. There is nothing worse than going to a home that is cluttered and ugly.

Diabetes and those with this diagnosis are caught in politics. It seems actually ridiculous but it remains to be true. In fact, a variety of people are caught up in this problem.
An international congress is scheduled for September 19, 2011. This meeting is focused on discussing how to interrupt the progress of the world-wide epidemic of non-communicable diseases (NCDs). This disease group includes cancer, diabetes, and heart conditions. There is a serious problem with all of these issues around the world. For anyone suffering from diabetes, you understand the challenge.
In Europe alone over 85% of the deaths are the result of NCDs. At the same time, over 80% of the financial resources are also expended to treat this group of health problems. In the United States death from NCDs is at least 70% with costs estimated to be in the billions. In fact the problem is world-wide and across all levels of social and economic status.
This is why some of the groups scheduled to participate in the congress are raising the alarm. With the event so close, very little forward motion seems to be happening as the event approaches. Goals, objectives and plans are not being set for the event of concern for the entire planet.
Although many individual organizations want support from the United Nations, it actually appears to be limiting the potential success for the meeting. With so many countries spending vast amounts of money and research to treat and understand diseases such as diabetes, addressing the problems successfully could literally have a positive effective on the entire world.
By experts, it is considered that NCDs is the biggest draw on humanity at this time. It saps human and financial resources being no respecter of persons. Changing this situation is so important that medical professionals at the highest level report every method of change from diplomacy to research to education is needed.
Many questions need to be addressed. We’ve learned that individuals have both a genetic and an epigenetic response related to diabetes (as well as heart disease and cancer). The trend for more people to develop this problem seems to be increasing and we don’t completely understand why. At the same time, very little serious investigation into traditional treatments, such as Cordyceps, has yet to be completed. And many other ancient treatments are also waiting to be fully tested so we can understand their benefits and integrate that into modern treatments.
How long will you wait to take the actions needed to change your situation with Diabetes. Whether you’re at risk or already diagnosed altering your lifestyle and diet is essential to getting the change you want is the golden key. Without your commitment actions at the national or international level may help those who come after you but your choices make the difference for you.

High blood pressure is a major issue these days and is the cause of so many other problems that the government often spends billions of pounds trying to make people aware the seriousness of this issue. It can lead to things like heart attacks, strokes and death but this is certainly avoidable and in many cases will only require a few minor lifestyle changes. It is recommended that you check out a free blood pressure chart to see if your readings are healthy.
Nowadays you can easily go to your GP and ask for a checkup or if you prefer you can buy a machine in a number of different stores and take your own reading. It is important to do these checks on a regular basis and look out for any major changes. A reading of between 120/80 and 140/90 is a sign that you are doing okay, but anything over 140/90 is a warning sign.
As the old saying goes, prevention is better than the cure, so with that in mind you should always try to ensure that you are taking steps to avoid any issues occurring. Exercise can also have a major impact here also. This does not have to be strenuous exercise. Things like walking, taking the stairs, or cleaning the house will all be a form of exercise. The key is to get your heart rate up while you are going the activity. Exercise can also help to reduce your stress levels and have a positive effect on your mood.
If your BMI is over 25 then you may need to consider going on a strict diet and exercise routine to bring this down to a more healthy reading. While you may not notice any physical symptoms there could be underlying problems and things like a heart attack will happen as a result of these underlying problems.
The basic idea is to make small changes in your overall lifestyle and in time this will have big health benefits for your body. There are plenty of helpful groups and lifestyle coaches around nowadays that can assist with any aspect of your health. It is a good idea to at least seek some advice to ensure a healthier you.

A well-fertilized garden is the key to an abundant yield of fruit and vegetables from your yearly gardening efforts. If you plan to fill your chest freezer baskets with the bounty of your garden, the appropriate and timely use of quality fertilizers can make all the difference.
We have a small plot of land in our yard that we use for growing strawberries. Due to the use of a combination of regular composting, and the occasional dash of Vigoro fertilizer, we usually – unless we suffer a devastating lack of rain or swarm of bugs – produce many more berries than we can possibly eat.
We could reduce the problems this poses by growing multiple strains of strawberries, and thus spreading the harvest over a longer period. However, we are big fans of the breed that we grow, and have no qualms about using techniques to make the harvest last year round.
Some people will choose to create jams or preserves out of their surplus berries. I tried this once, and while it was successful, I tend to not favor this method. This is strictly a personal preference, due to me not being overly fond of jams with my toast.
My preference is to freezer the strawberries as is – without sugar. This is best done by first freezing them on cooking sheets (individually), and then repackaging them into freezer bags for bulk storage. Once this is done, they can then be placed in the baskets in our freezer – or our friends freezers if we are feeling generous – for easy consumption year around.
Of course, when you love berries as much as my family does, you want as many as possible. That is why making use of a quality fertilizer optimized for the growth of berries, before and during the growing season, can be so beneficial!

Putting into operation the techniques involving a wonderful amortization calculator for house mortgage loans is an amazing idea mainly because it works out the interest compounded on a monthly basis. Every month, pay monthly installments linked with a home. Having a fixed rate, a percent of that repayment goes toward the lending company; nonetheless, that percent pays the interest price. Thus, after a while, loan installment amounts start to change.

Steps to be followed when growing capsicum:
- Choose a location or site of the garden which receives at least six hours of sunlight during the day.
- Soil preparation should be done by cultivating the land to discourage weed growth, make it easier for roots to penetrate and composite manure or fertilizer may be added depending on which is available and soil needs to enhance soil fertility. Capsicum love calcium therefore needs to treat the garden accordingly.
- Capsicum is then planted and this can be done from the seedlings on the seed bed or from grown seedlings transplanted where correct spacing must be followed to allow for aeration. Planting should be done on spring in order to avoid frost which may destroy the crops.

It isn’t every day that what you grow takes literally years to be ready to be consumed, after it is picked. That is the case with wine though. I’m a member of a wine of the month club here in my home town of San Francisco and we also grow a few grapes in order to make our own wine. Unlike many fruits, grapes actually grow well in cooler conditions, otherwise we couldn’t even think of trying them here in the city. My wine club likes to be hands on, so we have plenty of help when it comes time for harvest and to make our wine. Overall, it is a really, really fun process. In fact harvest weekend is one of the events we look forward to most each and every year around my garden.

So you found yourself stuck in deep amounts of debt because of this current dreadful recession and you don’t know what to do. Well fear not, fortunately there are numerous viable debt relief programs that are helping people to save money and time while on their path to personal financial freedom.
Getting free from the dreaded credit treadmill is not as hard as people may think it is. With a debt settlement program people can find themselves out of debt in as little as two years, and save over fifty percent of what they currently owe to their creditors.
That surely beats how long you will be stuck with your debt if you just try and maintain your monthly minimum credit card payments. That process is known as the credit treadmill for a reason, because you can never get off of it, you just keep on running all the while losing literally thousands of dollars to high interest. So if you are among the unfortunate to be stuck in this predicament then look for a solid program to help you get the relief you deserve.

Gardens in the UK often have large grassy areas. These soothe the mind and provide recreational space to enjoy a garden. People like to sit in a deck chair on the lawn in their garden. Children like to play on the soft grass. Moreover without hindrances such as high trees the distant view can be enjoyed. That is part of the function of lawns in stately home gardens. I love gardens and especially British gardens: herbacous borders, growing roses, having a kitchen herb garden and a rockery all fill me with satisfaction.
When I was a child I learnt the following short poem:
The kiss of the sun for pardon,
The song of the birds for mirth,
Your nearer God’s heart in a garden
Than anywhere else on earth.
I went on holiday to the Gulf of Thailand last year. It was my first trip to Thailand. My family and I stayed in a couple of bungalows on Haad Yao beach in Koh Phangan. I had booked the bungalows on the internet. The website claimed the bungalows were set in a tropical garden. I was thus surprised to discover that this tropical garden had very small lawns. The borders were bigger because the plants and shrubs were bigger. There were things like frangipani and orchids and fruit trees in the garden. It was interesting, but entirely different to the aesthetic of an English garden.
It was also too hot to linger in the heat of the garden. The shade of a towering coconut tree and a hammock were the ultimate in relaxation on the beach. I loved Haad Yao. It was a great place for the children. They loved playing in the sea.
When we got home to England it was the final dregs of the summer and I could enjoy sitting in my garden thinking about tropical gardens in koh Phangan.

Gardening is without a doubt, one of the most enjoyable activities you can ever get into. If you have kids, it helps to teach them about the value of work as time goes by as well as a number of other really important life lessons.
Unfortunately, gardening can be hell for your back.
Heck, after I replanted my entire garden two weeks ago I had to visit a Miami Chiropractor. I guess that is one of the pitfalls of being well into your 30’s when you first buy a home, but it is what it is right?
Overall, I still love to garden, although I might fit in a small back brace or at least a couple of knee pads before getting out into my garden these days.

Phuket’s National Parks: the Beauty and Wonder of Its Flora and Fauna
Phuket Thailand has something more to offer other than their impeccably scenic beaches and islands. Their rich flora and fauna is something most tourists and holidaymakers are looking forward to. The city of Phuket is a rare gem that marvelously sits at the Andaman Sea. With their fertile rainforest and sugary beaches, this haven never ceases to capture the hearts of many people from all sides of the earth. The endless mystique and unparalleled splendor of its wildlife and oceans is what Phuket constantly brags to locals and the visitors. The unspoiled beauty and wonder of their National Parks and gardens summon spectators to the depths and widths of its flora and fauna.
However, visiting these parks is not free. But good thing it doesn’t take much of our budget. Other national parks and gardens are affordable and can be enjoyed by those who are not willing to pay that much. There are quite a number of National parks located at the heart of Phuket. The famous Phuket waterfalls are a sight of beauty and splendor, add to that the small area of the mangrove forests that nurse many fish and crustaceans. Tours and fun itineraries are offered to tourists to wholly witness the view of the mangroves. Furthermore, Phuket Town is also known for its fitness parks sucha s the Khao Rang Hill where the statue of the first Governor of Phuket sits. For a lazy afternoon stroll, the Suan Luang Park is the best place to go. Add to that the serene feel of lotus ponds and lush trees all over the park. Near the shore of Phuket Bay is where you can come across with Saphan Hin. This park covers many food shops and restaurants. Also, they feature fitness centers and mangrove walkways where you can go running or walking the down the trails.
Located at the north of the Phuket Island, Khao Phra Thaeo Wildlife Park is said to be the sole virgin forest left on The City Phuket. This rainforest is the home of the magnificent Nam Tok Ton Sai waterfalls. Heading northeast from this point, you will come across Phuket’s largest waterfall, the Bang Pae waterfall. For an instant recharge and relaxation, there you can find a floating restaurant in the mangroves. In addition, Bang Pae is the home of the famed Gibbon Rehabilitation Center. This program specializes to adopt gibbons that were once captive and introduce them once again to the wild. Gibbons are small primates or apes found in Southeast Asia that were illegally used as tourist attractions or pets long ago. Located at the North West coast near the Phuket airport is the Sirinat Marine National Park which is a combination of marine life and terrestrial life. The Park is familiar for its Mai Khao Beach and its neighboring Nai Yang Beach which was known as nesting sites for turtles.
Another famous attraction situated in Phuket is the Laem Phromthep or the Phromthep Cape. This part of Phuket is famous for its scenic view of the oceans and islands that surround its premises. Sunset-watchers gather here to witness a breath-taking sight as the sun slowly sets in the sparkling horizon.

When the good weather comes my wife expects me to share a lot of the cooking. I really don’t mind as the bit I get to do is to look after the meat. I am a true carnivore – I absolutely to eat meat and my preferred method until recently was using the barbeque. I say until recently because my daughter bought me a Weber smokey mountain smoker for my birthday last year and that has taken over.
One of the main reasons that I love barbequing and smoking my meat is taste – that is a given really. I defy anyone to say that they prefer their meat cooked in an oven or under a grill. In my eyes, barbequing and smoking is the way to go. My other favourite reason for cooking my meat this way is that I love to spend time in the outdoors, whether that be hiking and hunting in the great outdoors or just pottering about in my garden. When I have got my smoker on, I have another great excuse to sit outside in my garden, beer in hand, and watch the world go by. I live next to a wooded area and listening to the birds and seeing which ones about is a wonderful pastime to have when waiting for that smoker to do its work. I feel so blessed to have such a lovely garden in a great part of the country!

Starting a garden is a great way to have fresh, nutrient rich negative calorie foods on hand. Even if you don’t have a green thumb, it’s easy to grow specific vegetables, fruits and herbs by focusing on planting negative calorie foods that deliver lots of nutrients but almost zero calories – the ones that will help you burn fat when you eat them but aren’t devoid of vitamins and minerals. What veggies and fruits should you plant in your negative calorie garden? Here are some suggestions of things that grow easily and are packed with phytochemicals, antioxidants and colon purifying properties:
1. leafy greens – especially leaf lettuce
You don’t need much to grow lettuce – a window box if space is limited. Start your lettuce inside and transplant for summer. Thin lettuce so there’s space for each plant. You can eat a negative calorie food diet by including a leafy green salad with each meal – and growing requires only a few pots, organically fertilized soil, sunlight and water.
2. spinach and chard
These low calorie foods can be eaten cooked or raw, and planting them is a delight because they grow quickly, can be harvested by cutting with scissors, and the plants will sprout new leaves.
3. broccoli, cauliflower and cabbage
Ideal negative calories foods. They take more care but it’s worth the effort to plant broccoli – rich in nutrients. Heads can be harvested when still tender.
4. carrots
Baby carrots can be harvested when they’re young. They take little space and grow fast.
5. green beans, cucumbers, zucchini and watermelons
Put up a trellis and start growing green beans. They’re high in fiber, have almost no calories and can be made into salads or soups. The plants look decorative and are a way to teach kids how food grows. Cucumbers – also negative calorie veggies – also can grow up a trellis, as will zucchini, and watermelons. A few seeds and you’ll have vines with beans, cucumbers, squash and watermelons – all zero calorie and yummy.
6. celery, radish, cayenne peppers, garlic, chives, and onions
All the above plus parsley and rosemary can be grown indoors or out. Plant peppers and harvest throughout the year. Parsley and chives can be cut frequently and plants continue growing. Green onions produce generously. Rosemary grows year-round.
7. citrus
Plant real citrus trees. It’s possible to grow lemons, oranges and tangerines in large pots indoors. Ornamental citrus trees may produce sour fruit, so squeeze juice and add honey.
8. baby tomatoes and strawberries
Both can be grown indoors or out and are generous bearers of fruit. Don’t forget to cut strawberry runners so they produce more berries and less leaves.

It doesn’t look much but I can’t think of a more useful tool than the common garden hoe. They’re not that easy to find unless you look for them and it was years before I got one of my own. In fact it was my kind neighbour who recommend I purchase one and I’m so glad he did.
It is actually one of the oldest tools used by man, there are plenty in history books just not so many in my local hardware store.
But there’s no doubt if you hunt around and find one, this is one tools you will never be without. So what can you use them for? Well, for a start if you ever move shrubs or smaller trees then this tool is essential. You can dig up the roots much better than a fork or spade.
It’s design is like a mini plough and that gives a huge clue to it’s use. Turing over earth it’s the best, digging out your potatoes and even creating the trench that you plant them in is a breeze.
There are so many uses, I can’t summarise them here and the truth is that once you get one your gardening life will be transformed. I am certain you’ll find hundreds of uses for your garden hoe as soon as you invest in one. I’m certain you’ll get more use from this 20$ tool than you will from your super expensive electric lawn mower at least.
Anyway I’ll leave this post here. it’s winter and the driveway is covered in frozen ice! It’s been difficult to clear without a thaw and my spade was not doing well. But fortunately I’ve thought of another tool that would be perfect for breaking up frozen snow – and I’ll leave you to guess what it is.

It wasn\’t so long ago that I would get the urge for a cigarette half hang out of the back door of my house and puff away. Without realizing the mess I was making I would flick the cig butt on the floor and carry on with what I was doing.
It was only when the times comes for me to mow the lawn that I would see the mess and then spend 15 minutes picking them up! Thankfully this is a thing of the past, not only do I not have to go out into the back garden to smoke but I can do it from the comfort of my couch in the living room. How is this possible? The answer is electronic cigarettes, no odor, no cig butts and no ash, I can smoke them wherever I want. It took me a while t take the plunge as I suspected they may just be some sort of fad product but I can honestly say the e cigarette I bought is one of the best buys I have ever made.
I went for the Safe Cig and was lucky enough to find myself a Safe Cig coupon code to save a little more money. Definitely not a \’here today gone tomorrow\’ device, they are here to stay. They are great to use at home and now I don\’t have to spend hours in the garden collecting cigarette butts.

Giving a wine gift is an interesting experience for someone who gardens regularly.
I\’m sure that for the average person who walks into a winery the terms used regularly by tasting room staff like “Dry Farming” don\’t mean anything to them.
“Dry Farming” definitely means something to me though. It means that the grapes are going to struggle to reach the water table in many areas. When we\’re growing trees in our backyard, that sounds like a terrible idea, but I know when growing fruits and veggies that a bit of the struggle usually leads to better fruit. Grapes in that way are no different.
It\’s funny, I never thought a near obsession with gardening would help me to select better wine, but it definitely seems to help!

Planting a vegetable garden in your backyard is a great way to add fresh produce to your diet. There is nothing healthier than adding fresh lettuce, tomatoes, potatoes and carrots to your daily intake of vegetables.
For the unemployed vegetable gardening can be double rewarding. Not only does it provide a useful and productive activity to take part in for an hour or two a day, it also provides a great cheap source of food for the family. Unemployment benefits and food stamps only go so far – and last so long – which means that if you are unemployed and having trouble finding a job then home grown food can be a real life saver.
Of course, you do not have to be in financial trouble for a vegetable garden to make sense. Many people enjoy garderning as a hobby – it is a relaxing and delightful way to while away ones leisure hours. Not only that, but even the smallest crop can provide satisfaction – you will be as a proud as punch if you bring in your own home grown ear of corn for the garden. It might be small, and there may only be one, but you grew it yourself!
Other benefits of vegetable gardening at home is that you get to control both the inputs and outputs. If you are concerned about insecticides you can opt for an organic garden and keep your produce chemical free. If you are tired of the tastelessness of store bought tomatoes you can grow tastier hierloom plants.
When you grow your own vegetables you can plant for the best taste, unlike commercial sellers you plant for extended shelf life so as to allow their crops to reach supermarket shelves across the country – and even the world – without wilting or rotting.
All in all, a vegetable garden is one of the most enjoyable and economical ways to provide food for your family.

Most of my firewood purchases are made with one purpose in mind: burning it brightly in my brand new outdoor fire pit. I’ve only owned it for a handful of months, but I’ve already received well more in benefits than the few hundred dollars I spent on a top quality fire pit.
There’s just something special about sitting around a roaring fire on a brisk evening, and everyone I bring to the house feels it too. I sometimes wonder if it’s hard-coded into our DNA as humans to enjoy this relaxing activity. It’s not hard to imagine our ancient ancestors sitting around a roaring fire with the intention of keeping warm and keeping away animals and other predators. You can almost picture the camaraderie and unity of purpose, and I think it has passed itself along across the centuries.
Over the recent months I’ve had to learn a whole lot about the types and quantities of firewood as well as the best ways to keep it dry and ready to burn at a moment’s notice. I learned that firewood is often sold in fractions of a “cord”. A cord is 128 cubic feet of firewood, which is a pile of wood sixteen feet wide by four feet high by two feet deep (the normal length of a piece of firewood). I certainly don’t need this much wood at one time, so I usually buy a quarter cord to store at home.
Since I didn’t want to waste my investment, I researched the best ways to keep firewood dry and free of insect infestations and I came away with the recommendation to get a steel firewood rack. I was able to get this off the internet and it came with a lifetime warranty and a cover to keep the precipitation off the wood. So now when I toss some logs into the fire pit, I know they’ll burn brightly every time. Both the pit and the firewood storage rack were great investments and have added to my quality of life!

Spending time in my garden drops my stress level dramatically but unfortunately I have not been able to work on it very often lately. I have had to pick up a second job in an attempt to pay down my debt. It still seems like every time I pay off a bill there is another creditor calling me. This seems to be a never ending cycle in my life.
That is until I was talking to my mother a few weeks back. I had finally confessed the financial mess I was in. To my surprise she simple said I should look into a IVA. What is an IVA? I asked myself. Knowing how smart my mother is I quickly went and applied for an IVA.
Now that I have been approved and have a set plan to pay off my debt quicker and with much less effort I have plans to start working in the garden again. Thankfully, in my case, Mother knows best!

I just spent the last 2 days trying to import a bulk amount of fertilizers online. The internet is basically a jungle and I think I got lost! The good news is that I got a list of some fantastic providers of fertilizers at prices that seem almost too good to be true. But a quick check of various reviews and I can tell they are all legit. This got me thinking though, clearly there is a market for selling gardening products online so why shouldn’t I do the same? I spoke to an seo company recently about setting up an eCommerce store and whether or not it made sense for me to do it. What I found out what was pretty amazing.
Apparently there is a growing trend of buyers online and hence a growing trend of gardening companies selling their products online. So from a business point of view it makes sense, but from a marketing point of view, I would have to compete with all the other gardening companies across the world. This really got me thinking (and exited!) about whether this would be a worthwhile endeavor or not.
At the end of the day, I can’t imagine this trend ever reversing, so I guess its only a matter of time before I take action. So many choices, so little time.

Every year there are thousands of injuries as a result of accidents in the garden. One of the main causes of injury is caused by the numerous tools available, more than 400,000 people go through the emergency room every year. This number can be greatly reduced by following a few easy steps.
There are a number of things that can be done to improve safety whilst gardening and even though some may seem simple they should be always be followed carefully.
Some of the reasons accidents happen are due to people taking shortcuts, not recognizing risks and a lack of knowledge in general safety and use of garden equipment. As expected there are always a number of things that can be done to limit the risks of injury.
- Take a look around your garden and check for any potential hazards such as tools lying around
- Watch for any uneven paving slabs
- Tidy up unravelled hose pipes
- Clear slippy patches on paths caused by moss
- Put all electrical equipment away out of wet weather and keep them out of reach of children.
- Don’t try and do the gardening in icy weather conditions to prevent slips
- If you smoke try not to do this in the garden especially in particularly dry weather if you have dense areas of bush, fires can start easily from carelessly discarded cigarette ends. Consider using an e cigarette in when gardening, take a look at this E-Lites review for more information on this.
- If you have a pond and children be sure to have them in view of the house, consider a fence or dense plants to restrict access by children.
- Use the right tools, the right safety equipment (goggles, gloves) and be sure your posture is correct in both lifting and in the use of hand tools.
These are all quite obvious things to look out for but they are still responsible for a large number of garden accidents and should be in your mind at all time. Remember prevention is the key to safety in the garden!

There is little doubt that we have more people out of work today than ever before. State governments and the Federal government are having a hard time coming up with all the money people are trying to collect for their unemployment benefits.
Today, when you file for unemployment it is much different than it was before the Internet. Almost all the states now let you make your initial claims online and some of them even require it. That means you need a computer or need access to one in order to do what you used to be able to do in person.
The whole process has changed and become computerized. Remember George Costanza in the television Seinfeld? He tried to get his unemployment benefits and had to convince a lady that he was actually looking for a job. It was comical of course, but a lot of things have changed since that show was filmed.
Now it is all done over the Internet and you have to submit all that information online. In many cases, you never have to even talk face to face with any real person for the duration of your benefits. Perhaps that is one of the reasons why so many people are content to never really look for work and just take the free benefit money instead.
It is rapidly becoming the case that you need to have access to the Internet in some way just to be a part of society. People are being taken out of the equation whenever possible as everything moves online. Looking for a job is another thing that more and more people are doing exclusively online. No matter what type of job you have or lose, you need to be able to function online in some capacity in the world today.

Sleep apnea is a disease that is growing in its awareness. Presently there is somewhere around twenty million people in the USA alone that have yet to be diagnosed with this condition. Fortunately there is a selection of diverse treatment options for those diagnosed with sleep apnea.
When most people think sleep apnea treatment they think CPAP. This is a facemask put on at night that streams a continuous airflow into your airway, as a result stopping the snoring and allowing proper breathing. There is also the choice of opting for oral surgery, however this can be extremely painful and often times is unsuccessful. At last there is another answer that is rather accepted today and that is oral appliance therapy. Oral devices will support the tongue in such a way that the airway remains unhindered.

How to Propagate an Aloe
Aloes are a big hit in our nursery. They are popular with our customers and sell very well.
Did you know that it is very easy to propagate any aloe from side shoots or “pups”? These are small baby aloes growing around the stem of the mother plant. I happen to have an aloe with two pups that I will use to demonstrate the process. Take a look…

This is the mother plant with the two small pups big enough to be removed.

Here I’ve removed the bag and most of the soil to expose the aloe’s roots. Closer inspection reveals that there are actually three pups!

I removed the pups by tearing them off the mother plant. You could also use a sharp knife or a blade to cut them off. These pups are beautiful – the bigger two have already developed some roots. Some resources suggest that you leave the pups for a week or two to dry before you pot them up. I find that unnecessary and usually pot them straight away.

Potting up the pups! I use river sand mixed with some garden soil/potting soil. Roughly 3 to 4 parts sand to 1 part soil. Use a pencil or a similar object to make a hole in the soil. Gently insert the pup and firm the soil around it.

The end product! Three baby aloes!
